DTF Heat Press Instructions

Get the best results from your Signs Designs DTF Transfers by following these recommended heat press settings. Because garment materials and heat presses can vary, we recommend performing a test press whenever possible.

Recommended Heat Press Settings

Temperature: 300°F–310°F
Press Time: 10–15 seconds
Pressure: Medium to firm pressure
Peel: Follow the transfer’s peel recommendation
Final Press: 5–10 seconds

How to Apply Your DTF Transfer

  1. Preheat the Garment
    Press the garment for approximately 3–5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
  2. Position the Transfer
    Place the DTF transfer on the garment with the printed design facing up and the adhesive side against the fabric.
  3. Press the Transfer
    Heat press at approximately 300°F–310°F for 10–15 seconds using medium to firm pressure.
  4. Peel the Film
    Remove the carrier film according to the transfer’s peel type. If the transfer does not release cleanly, allow it to cool slightly and try again rather than forcing it.
  5. Final Press
    Cover the design with parchment paper, butcher paper, or a finishing sheet and press again for 5–10 seconds. This helps improve durability and finish.

Recommended Fabrics

DTF transfers work well on many materials, including:

  • 100% Cotton
  • Polyester
  • Cotton/Polyester Blends
  • Hoodies
  • T-Shirts
  • Sweatshirts
  • Tote Bags
  • Many other heat-safe fabrics

Always verify that the garment can safely withstand the recommended pressing temperature.

Important Pressing Tips

Use a heat press whenever possible for even heat and consistent pressure. Household irons are not recommended because they may not provide enough consistent heat or pressure.

Avoid seams, zippers, buttons, collars, and other raised areas when pressing. Uneven pressure can prevent the transfer from bonding correctly.

If the edges begin lifting after peeling, reposition the film or cover the design and press again for a few additional seconds.

Washing & Care Instructions

For maximum durability:

  • Wait 24 hours before the first wash
  • Turn garments inside out
  • Machine wash cold or warm
  • Use mild detergent
  • Avoid bleach
  • Avoid fabric softener when possible
  • Tumble dry low or hang dry
  • Do not iron directly over the printed design
